Q&A with Lauren Cox

Describe yourself in just three sentences.

I’m blessed to be a wife and a mother to three beautiful children. The Lord has continued to show me grace and mercy as I seek Him and navigate these roles. I love learning more about God each day and am passionate about sharing the knowledge I acquire to those around me in both word and deed.

What obstacles have you faced living a Christ-filled life in the midst of NFL culture?

With all the moving back and forth that we do, I struggle feeling content in this nomadic lifestyle. But I have to remind myself that even if we lived in the same house 365 days a year, this world is not my home and I would find other things to be discontent with.

How has the NFL grown your faith?

We’ve witnessed God’s goodness year after year. He uses the NFL to care for us and our family abundantly, and because of that, we can in turn care for others. We’ve thanked Him for His blessings. We’ve trusted Him through injuries. We’ve submitted to Him when we’ve changed teams. There are always tests and trials in this chapter of life, but God has been faithful.

What role has your community played to support you and give you encouragement?

As much turnover as there is year after year with the NFL, we’re all each other has during the season. No one else understands this lifestyle except us! This community has become a family away from home, and the believers within the Nfl community have continued to point me to Christ. Some of the friends we’ve made along the way know more about me than people I’ve known over half my life. I am very grateful for this community and how they poured into me over the years.

Do you have a favorite book or person from the Bible? Why?

Favorite book would have to Romans. It’s a book about righteousness— why it’s needed, how it’s provided, how it’s practiced. It’s an encouragement not to be ashamed of the gospel, but to admit our sinfulness and need for a savior and to boldly proclaim the Truth from there.

Favorite person, Ruth in the Old Testament and Paul in the New Testament!

The story of Ruth is inspiring because she leaves everything she’s ever known to follow her mother-in-law simply because Naomi emulates faith and hope—something the godless city of Moab has never revealed before. Ruth shows that the tiniest amount of blind faith in God can place you smack dab in the middle of His will as an active participant.

Paul because of his conversion story. How does one man go from murdering hundreds of Christians to writing the majority of the New Testament? It’s fascinating the pain he endured and the scrutiny he experienced all for the sake of the gospel, something he despised the most while he was still dead in his sin, as we all are at some point in our lives.

If you could give just one piece of encouragement/advice, what would it be?

Continue to seek Him daily and be bold in the truth. Find a community that pushes you to want to know more about God. And when you approach the Bible, don’t seek yourself throughout the pages but strive to learn more about the Lord.
