April Breakfast Club - Finding Hope After Divorce
About the Speakers:
Kathleen Johnson writes, "I heard these words after 12 years of marriage. "I don’t love you anymore. I want a divorce.” With two young daughters, a deeply-held belief in the sanctity of covenant marriage, and a life-long dream of having a united Christian family, I was devastated. As evidence of previously unknown betrayal emerged, overcoming bitterness and unforgiveness felt like an insurmountable challenge for a time. Thankfully, my pain prompted a deeper search for God and resulted in a stronger dependence on Him that catapulted me into a wonderful season of healing, mind renewal, and restoration. God hates divorce for good reason—but with God, there is hope, comfort, and peace on the other side. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18

November 2022 Breakfast Club
Q&A with Lauren Rainey Tenney
How would you describe yourself in three sentences?
I’m a mom, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister and most importantly a daughter of the King. I strive to elevate God in the way I live, speak and love people. I never do it perfectly but at 42 years old, this is my goal ❤️
What got you started on your journey of setting healthy boundaries and wanting to share that journey with others?
My life was tumultuous and confusing. I loved the Lord but kept finding myself depressed, hurt, and frustrated that things weren’t going the way I had dreamed they would and that dream was to be peaceful, happy and full of joy. I knew I was missing something very obvious and so I set out to find it. Enter boundaries and my life changed.
What have you found to be difficult in setting boundaries? What do you find encouraging?
It’s difficult to set boundaries with people who have no idea what they are and that live a life of blaming others for everything. The encouraging thing about this is, when you are rooted in your healthy boundaries, you can be around these people and not be trampled over. AND when they see you living solidly in your boundaries it can give them permission to do a little digging and figure out what’s missing in their life. They can ask (either audibly or just internally); “Why are YOU so confident and joyful?” And your life choices can show them the answer.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for someone seeking to create their own boundaries?
Baby step your way into boundaries. If you aren’t used to it, don’t go full boar! Take one person that you love and that loves you and start with them.
Where can people hear more from you and follow you on social media?

Lauren Cox is a mom, actress, believer and wife to Tennessee Titan's Morgan Cox.
October 2022 Breakfast Club
Q&A with Lauren Cox
Describe yourself in just three sentences.
I’m blessed to be a wife and a mother to three beautiful children. The Lord has continued to show me grace and mercy as I seek Him and navigate these roles. I love learning more about God each day and am passionate about sharing the knowledge I acquire to those around me in both word and deed.
What obstacles have you faced living a Christ-filled life in the midst of NFL culture?
With all the moving back and forth that we do, I struggle feeling content in this nomadic lifestyle. But I have to remind myself that even if we lived in the same house 365 days a year, this world is not my home and I would find other things to be discontent with.
How has the NFL grown your faith?
We’ve witnessed God’s goodness year after year. He uses the NFL to care for us and our family abundantly, and because of that, we can in turn care for others. We’ve thanked Him for His blessings. We’ve trusted Him through injuries. We’ve submitted to Him when we’ve changed teams. There are always tests and trials in this chapter of life, but God has been faithful.
What role has your community played to support you and give you encouragement?
As much turnover as there is year after year with the NFL, we’re all each other has during the season. No one else understands this lifestyle except us! This community has become a family away from home, and the believers within the Nfl community have continued to point me to Christ. Some of the friends we’ve made along the way know more about me than people I’ve known over half my life. I am very grateful for this community and how they poured into me over the years.
Do you have a favorite book or person from the Bible? Why?
Favorite book would have to Romans. It’s a book about righteousness— why it’s needed, how it’s provided, how it’s practiced. It’s an encouragement not to be ashamed of the gospel, but to admit our sinfulness and need for a savior and to boldly proclaim the Truth from there.
Favorite person, Ruth in the Old Testament and Paul in the New Testament!
The story of Ruth is inspiring because she leaves everything she’s ever known to follow her mother-in-law simply because Naomi emulates faith and hope—something the godless city of Moab has never revealed before. Ruth shows that the tiniest amount of blind faith in God can place you smack dab in the middle of His will as an active participant.
Paul because of his conversion story. How does one man go from murdering hundreds of Christians to writing the majority of the New Testament? It’s fascinating the pain he endured and the scrutiny he experienced all for the sake of the gospel, something he despised the most while he was still dead in his sin, as we all are at some point in our lives.
If you could give just one piece of encouragement/advice, what would it be?
Continue to seek Him daily and be bold in the truth. Find a community that pushes you to want to know more about God. And when you approach the Bible, don’t seek yourself throughout the pages but strive to learn more about the Lord.

Q&A with Christa Booker
Self care is such a hot topic right now. What are some tidbits we can share with those that were not at the breakfast?
I’ve heard the phrase “Self Care" discussed so much lately, especially throughout the pandemic as many people experienced a new level of overwhelm.
I look at self care through the lense of making sure our individual needs are being met. When we make sure our needs are taken care of first, it helps us to show up in the world as the best version of ourselves. The first step I believe is to be aware of our different needs and how we fulfill them. At the breakfast the other day, I focused on self care through 8 categories of human needs. Anyone can read more about that from a blogpost on my website.
We would love for you to share with us what you thought of the breakfast?
Oh wow, I thought it went so well. I treated the breakfast as if it was a group coaching session, which none of the women knew going in. I was so pleasantly surprised at how receptive the group was. Personally I believe that this is largely attributed to the safe space that Faithfully Restored created as well as their clear mission to create connection and support for women in the community.
My personal coaching philosophy is 3 tiered - education, guidance and reflection. I spend a little time on education and guidance, but the gold is in the reflection of the participants. When we share our hearts with others, this creates a human connection and a feeling of belonging. The women that shared on Thursday did such a beautiful job I had chills the entire time. There were women there from different stages in life and different perspectives. I personally learned so much from them. My hope is that they keep in touch in the future - I didn’t want it to end!
Are there any action steps someone can take away that wasn't at the event?
Yes! As part of the “guidance” part of our day, I put together a self care worksheet. Anyone can work through this themselves. The main point of the worksheet is for each individual to think about how their needs are getting met and rank each category 1 - 5. Additionally, they were asked to narrow down 3 areas that are a priority for them to get support. Although the overall map may be daunting, I believe narrowing it down to small, attainable steps is key. And of course getting support around those - because we can't do it all alone!
My hope is that people walk away from this process with a roadmap on how they can better communicate their needs so that they can show up their best self in the world. And of course, if I can be their support in any way, they can email me or reach me via my website.
