Heather's Story
Hi! My name is Heather Milburn and I am so excited that you are here with us. I have a husband Will, and 2 kiddos Madison and William. They are my people and I prayed for them long before I knew them.
When I was a teenager, I lost three special people in my life. My mom at the age of 14 from metastatic cancer. My grandfather from a heart attack on the evening we buried my mother’s ashes. And, a year later, my father unexpectedly passed away as well. It was an incredibly painful, lonely, and confusing time in my life. I would be lying if I didn’t say that at that time in my life, I questioned God and what His plans were for me.
However, through God’s unwavering grace, He always provided people in my life to let me know I was loved and not alone. Without hesitation, my older brothers took over guardianship of me (I was considered an orphan in the court system) and shortly later we moved to Tennessee. It was a difficult, and at times, trying experience but I am forever thankful for the selfless decision my brothers made for me.
In 2008, I married my college sweetheart and a few years later we welcomed our daughter and son into this world. Life was beautiful. But, in 2015, at the age of 30, I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. The same cancer that my mother and grandmother both passed from. The love and support we received from our family and friends during that time was priceless. Then, in 2017, we learned my cancer had returned. Through God’s continued grace, an amazing medical team, and with a lot of love, encouragement and prayers, I am alive today. A gift I don’t take for granted.
But my families story doesn’t end there. In 2020 in the middle of a pandemic my husband, Will fell ill. Several dead ends and misdiagnosis later my husband was diagnosed with a rare disease known as Amyloidosis. One of the youngest on record to receive his specific diagnosis. Our hearts were broken as we realized our children no longer had one sick parent but two. However - God showed up and continued and still continues to show us that His plan is far better than ours. What a gift.
We do not know what our families future holds, but through Him, we have hope and peace. What a gift that is.
It is without question that we will all face trials and tribulations in our lives. Regardless of your circumstances, I hope Faithfully Restored can remind you that you are loved and not alone. Let’s walk this broken world together and allow Jesus to turn our ashes into beauty.
