Event Recap with Christa Booker

Self care is such a hot topic right now. What are some tidbits we can share with those that were not at the breakfast?

I’ve heard the phrase “Self Care" discussed so much lately, especially throughout the pandemic as many people experienced a new level of overwhelm.

I look at self care through the lense of making sure our individual needs are being met. When we make sure our needs are taken care of first, it helps us to show up in the world as the best version of ourselves. The first step I believe is to be aware of our different needs and how we fulfill them. At the breakfast the other day, I focused on self care through 8 categories of human needs. Anyone can read more about that from a blogpost on my website

We would love for you to share with us what you thought of the breakfast?

Oh wow, I thought it went so well. I treated the breakfast as if it was a group coaching session, which none of the women knew going in. I was so pleasantly surprised at how receptive the group was. Personally I believe that this is largely attributed to the safe space that Faithfully Restored created as well as their clear mission to create connection and support for women in the community.

My personal coaching philosophy is 3 tiered - education, guidance and reflection. I spend a little time on education and guidance, but the gold is in the reflection of the participants. When we share our hearts with others, this creates a human connection and a feeling of belonging. The women that shared on Thursday did such a beautiful job I had chills the entire time. There were women there from different stages in life and different perspectives. I personally learned so much from them. My hope is that they keep in touch in the future - I didn’t want it to end!

Are there any action steps someone can take away that wasn't at the event?

Yes! As part of the “guidance” part of our day, I put together a self care worksheet. Anyone can work through this themselves. The main point of the worksheet is for each individual to think about how their needs are getting met and rank each category 1 - 5. Additionally, they were asked to narrow down 3 areas that are a priority for them to get support. Although the overall map may be daunting, I believe narrowing it down to small, attainable steps is key. And of course getting support around those - because we can't do it all alone!

My hope is that people walk away from this process with a roadmap on how they can better communicate their needs so that they can show up their best self in the world. And of course, if I can be their support in any way, they can email me or reach me via my website
